PHILOSOPHY
My vision is to provide individualized, meaningful, authentic, and integrative instruction to all students in a safe and nurturing learning environment. In my classroom, “fair” is not every student receiving the same thing, but is every student receiving what he or she personally needs to succeed both academically and socially. My instruction is student-centered, and each child is the leader of his or her own learning. My classroom is a place where diversity is celebrated and students learn to collaborate respectfully as responsible citizens of a community. My classroom is a Culture of Thinking, in which every student recognizes that their voice is valued. In my classroom, students not only learn core instruction, but also learn about leadership, compassion, and empathy. I believe in educating the whole child through social emotional learning and character education, teaching them the power of choosing kindness, taking care of themselves, taking care of each other, and taking care of our world. In my classroom, we don't "do easy." We make easy happen through dedication, resilience, persistence, and grit. I believe in the power of YET and growth mindset. No matter my personal circumstances on a given day, I always enter my classroom with a beaming smile, infectious energy, and contagious enthusiasm, which allows me to establish positive relationships with all students, instill confidence in them, and ignite their passion for lifelong learning. |
