My name is Christina Sauchak. I am a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Education, where I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (K-8). During my time at MSU, I also pursued a teaching specialization in Language Arts (6-8) and minors in Spanish and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
During the 2015-2016 school year, I completed my student teaching internship in a second grade classroom at Oakley Park Elementary School in the Walled Lake Consolidated School District. Upon completing my internship, I finished the school year as a longterm ESL substitute in the district. I currently teach first grade at Dolsen Elementary School in the South Lyon Community Schools. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience creating my first classroom community. It is an amazing feeling witnessing my students grow both personally and academically each day. Even when I am not in the classroom, you can still find me spending time with children of all ages! I am the head coach of the Walled Lake Northern High School JV Dance and Pom Team, where I coach freshmen and sophomore dancers through a ten month season. I also share my passion for dance as a children's ballet instructor at Theresa's Academy of Dance. In addition, I work as an academic tutor and executive function coach at the Brighton Center for Pediatric Neurodevelopment. I design individualized instruction for children with a variety of diverse needs including ADD, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, nonverbal learning disorder, and other reading disorders. Furthermore, I spend my summers leading day camps at Summers-Knoll School in Ann Arbor. Last summer, I designed curriculum for a variety of camps, including Fairyland, Leonardo da Vinci, and Math Merchants. I also led escape camps, which allowed me to visit various destinations across the state with my campers to provide them with authentic learning opportunities. I love spending time with my family and friends, cheering on the Michigan State Spartans, giving back to my community, reading, writing, and traveling. Someday, I hope to travel back to Valencia, Spain, where I once spent a summer studying at the University of Virginia Hispanic Studies Center and lived with a Spanish host family. "Getting the most out of life isn't about how much you keep for yourself, but how much you pour into others."
